January Tree - Fine Art Print
Trees are one of my favourite subjects on the moor. This one is toward the centre of Dartmoor.
During the winter months, they are particularly gnarly with spikey shapes and rough textures.
Shot differently to the average landscape shot, I was lying on the cold, wet ground with the camera hand held within the crispy orange bracken.
I used this low camera technique to make the tree stronger by bringing it above the horizon. I also broke all the landscape photography rules by using relatively narrow depth of field – meaning that just the tree and a line through the bracken are completely sharp. This helps separate the background from the tree.
