Established in the South of Devon in 2016 Devon Pens has gone from strength to strength, making use of local woods where possible to create unique writing implements. A quantity of wood is available from Buckland Abbey, a National Trust property and the former home of Sir Francis Drake.
About the Artist
Devon Pens is owned by David Ratcliffe. Here is what he has to say about why he loves producing hand turned wooden pens.
"I started wood turning after I inherited a lathe from my Great Uncle. I still now, many years later, use some of the same tools and often think back to him using them.
I love making pens, they are each so individual and you never know quite what you will find inside each piece of wood. I use a wax finish on my pens, as I like to feel the wood, and not the artificial coating used by some makers.
Living on the edge of Dartmoor has inspired me and I will be trying to source as much local wood as possible moving forward."
