Another Shed Production (Jane Watts) has been a crafter, maker and designer for over 30 years making functional driftwood furniture.
Inspired by the colours and textures of the moorland and sea, metal seemed a natural progression and soon incorporated it into my work.
In 2012 husband Mike built my Forge in the back garden nestled against the woods in the South Hams. We've avoided putting mains power in my forge so all my work is done by hand, no patterns jigs or power tools are used.
Whilst visiting friend Tom in Perth Australia, a knife maker and leather worker asked one night if I could forge a buckle and make belts. A lesson in belt making took place the next day. The seed was planted and I had plenty of time to think on the journey home.
I designed a buckle that incorporated metal found by diver husband Mike, copper pipe with beautiful verdigris and forged steel created the rustic look I was after. Mike also found some Railway sleeper pins off a wreck in Whitsand Bay that was torpedoed 70 years ago. I hacked the rust off heated them in the forge and discovered the most incredible Patina. The utility/ Nautical style stitching has look of function and fits with the materials I use.
Leather sourced from one of the oldest independent suppliers in the U.K. and one of only a few still finishing leather by hand. Matched with the buckles made the perfect combination. My product was borne!
Christmas 2016 I gave up my job as a Training and development coordinator to finally make Another Shed Production a business. I continue to be a Director of Greenwoodmusic.co.uk a not for profit company.
Every belt and its buckle are totally handmade and finished. No two are alike after all they are made from treasure!
